The call to a chaste single life is one that every person, at some point, is called to. Rather than treating our state of ‘being single’ passively, as if there is something wrong with it, it is about living out that state intentionally. Part of this involves taking the time to develop yourself, to grow spiritually and in self-understanding. Part of this involves being free to give yourself to the Church in service, without the commitments of marriage, family, or consecrated life. For some, the vocation to a single life is lifelong, and not simply another step on the way to marriage, priesthood, or the religious life. This is something that has begun to recognised as a legitimate vocation and a genuine means of serving Christ and His Church.
